The Newport Sanitary District is licensed by the Maine Department of Environmental Protection and is a corporation independent of the municipality, governed by an elected Board of Directors and operated by a state licensed Superintendent. Revenues are derived from user fees and charges.
The District operates an over 40 year old treatment plant that is presently operating at 50% of capacity.
To ensure the Newport Sanitary District can continue delivering the level of service you expect, a rate adjustment to reflect operational cost and ongoing improvements is required. Please see our "NEWS" section for further information on how to reduce maintenance and help keep our system running at it's best.
